The candidate should have a sincere love and veneration for his Almighty Maker, productive of those happy fruits, righteousness and obedience to God's commands; a firm and steadfast faith in the Savior of the World; convinced that Jesus Christ is the only mediator between a sinful creature and a holy and offended creator; possessing a reliance upon the power and grace of the Holy Spirit.His disposition should be humane and compassionate; he should be an enemy to brutality, and every species of un-Christian conduct.

    He should be a lover of rational and improving society, faithfully regarding the Protestant Religion, and sincerely desirous of propagating its precepts, viz.: charity and good will towards all men; being careful to preserve sobriety and good conduct among his brethren, condemning intemperance as an abomination, being zealous in the promotion of the honor, happiness, and prosperity of the Order; a lover and defender of his country, being careful to suppress all Anti-Christian encroachments and invasions.  

    He should have a hatred of cursing and swearing, and of the profane use of God's holy name. He should shun the company of all men addicted to any or all of these habits, which are in opposition to the divine teachings of the Bible, and the good government of this Institution.

    Prudence and loyalty should guide all his actions; temperance, charity, and honesty direct his conduct, and the laudable objects of the Orange Institution should be the motives of all his endeavors through life.
